ENIT

A kitchen with an intelligent, young and dynamic soul and a surprising quality/price ratio. The solid structure, built according to MVK+ITALIA’s qualitative standards, reads in a very contemporary way a simple material such as melamine. The result is a “smart” kitchen that conveys the youngest character of MVK+ITALIA, thanks to the original project idea it was born from. The units are broken up in vertical and horizontal surfaces by using different colours, which underline the shapes of the entire kitchen. A modern design that stands out for its colours and three-dimensional appearance.

Concept.

“Is it possible to create a kitchen with a revolutionary design, highly functional and affordable by everyone?” This is the challenge brought by Alessandro Segala, leader of MVK+ITALIA project; a challenge we accepted, and from which the idea behind SMART was born. An innovative project which changes the traditional paradigm of the kitchen to find its own visual language. Colour turns volumes into light, aerial surfaces, giving the kitchen a surprising sense of space. The rigorous design receives the colour’s fresh and strong voice through an interpretation through “smart” materials which guarantee beauty, resistance, and durability.

In SMART the peculiar play between surfaces, colours, and dimensions doesn’t stop at coating the exterior part of the kitchen. Indeed, the inner part of the cabinet has the same aesthetic and chromatic vigour found at the exterior, giving birth to a tridimensional play which is the main stylistic feature of this new kitchen. A building detail which represents a novelty in the market and which revolutionizes the way in which kitchen interiors are created and looked at.

In SMART, aesthetics meet higher technology, bringing quality and innovation into the kitchen. Every building detail is conceived to have a style which is minimal and resistant at the same time. The 25mm high-capacity structure gives the counter a higher degree of solidity and the lack of ceiling enables, according to one’s own needs, to accommodate in every base components such as the kitchen stove and the sink. Furthermore, to give SMART a higher degree of durability, every case and door has its borders made with polyurethane glue, a material which is highly resistant to humidity.

Each technical solution employed to create the openings has been devised to maintain SMART’s formal cleanness. The only visible handle is the one designed for the fridge, a colour “plaque” which becomes an important aesthetic element. Under request, it is possible to apply it also to the other columns, already provided -just like the wall cupboards- with a push-pull system. On the bases an innovative and unperceivable solution is present: a bent, continuous throat coated in adjustable plastic material, which gives the element a higher degree of resistance against scratches caused by nails and wear.

The visual rigour which characterizes SMART’s aesthetics is given by the exact distance between one door and the other, which is 18mm long. The productive techniques employed in this kitchen enable for the building of cases with finished sides, because of them having the same colour as the door; this enables to avoid the installation of over sides and/or finished sides. On deeper islands, where two cases are merged, a special junction has been added. A vertical colour line which reclaims the 18mm-long dividion of the doors and which enables to maintain SMART’s design aesthetic on each side of the islands, too.

Coloured tops and edges and neuter-shade faces divide each volume into horizontal and vertical surfaces creating a tridimensional play. This is the aesthetic idiom which characterizes SMART and which outlined the rules for the choice of materials. A project which has been made possible only thanks to the merging of three types of different materials, thus enabling to obtain the same tone of colour on tops and edges. Following specific technical and production choices, then, some elements are built with melamine, other with laminate and other with ABS; thanks to their flexibility the juxtaposition between them doesn’t cause any problem due to different nuances.

SMART is available in serial finishes and sizes, but, thanks to the general optimization of the project, under specific request and with an additional charge it can be personalized. Modules can be reduced in height, width and depth to adjust them to one’s own living spaces in the best possible way. Adding a further customized element above the column enables to create columns of the desired height or even touching the ceiling. Under specific request, it is also possible to personalize SMART’s colours. The basic chromies can indeed be broken down and then merged freely to create new colour combinations.

A flexible project, whose desire is to meet the new needs of the market: having a product full of style, of higher quality as well as affordable. Thanks to the full engineering of the project, to the choice of materials, and to its essential components it has been possible to optimize every phase of production, assembly and fastening of the kitchen, thus contributing to a scale economy. This type of production allowed for a higher degree of investment into each element composing SMART, offering a high-quality product but with a competitive and favorable price at the same time.

LAMINATES FOR TOPS

The laminate used on SMART belongs to the HPL-type, according to European norms on working tables. Thanks to the pairing with hydro support (2), to the polyurethane coating on the ABS-edges as well as to its characteristics, laminate (1) allowed for the concretisation of SMART’s project and aesthetic idea. A strong and resistant material which effectivel resists to weak acids; it is durable and easy to clean. To keep it unchanged, never use abrasive powders or sponges in that they create porosity in the plastic laminate, making it more absorbent of dirt and more difficult to clean. Never expose this material to high heat and do not place hot cookware directly on it. Be particularly careful of cigarettes: laminate is heat-resistant but after a few minutes, it would be irreparably stained. If used on kitchen tops, always remember to dry the work surface carefully near the sink, range top, and joints as liquid may seep into microholes and cause swelling of the countertop even though it has been sealed during installation.

MELAMINIC FOR DOORS AND CONTAINERS

In SMART, a 25-mm thick melamine layer is used, formed by a support (1) and by finishing foils impregnated with melamine resins (2). To obtain a higher resistance to scratches and a better aesthetic a certified Swiss product has been used. Despite it not being hydro-friendly, thanks to polyurethane glue edging, on SMART it reaches a higher resistance to humidity, giving birth to a strong surface which requires easy maintenance. Thanks to its features, melamine can be excellently combined with the laminate and ABS, used in other elements of the kitchen. Clean with a damp cloth, never wet. For deep cleaning use alcohol diluted with water and dry accurately. Never use abrasive products or powders or products containing chlorine or diluters. Keep as far away as possible from sources of excessive heat as the PVC edges may deteriorate. Dry accurately in case of water loss and keep far away from humidity because it can swell up. To protect your kitchen against humidity, simply dry it following use and after cleaning, always use the hood while cooking, air out the kitchen often, and never open the dishwasher door before all the residue steam inside has not disappeared completely.

ABS FOR EDGES

For every edge of SMART’s structural element (1), ABS (2) is employed thanks to its multiple features. A completely atoxic material which, thanks to its chromatic variety, can be combined well with the laminated top’s colour and with the melamine of doors and containers. It is a dense and very hard material. Refractory to surface damages and scratches, it is resistant between -30° and +50° degrees; it effectively rejects water, weak acids, mineral, vegetal and animal oils, but it is also highly resistant to alcohol and chemical solvents. Characterized by a nice surface as well as by a light-resistant colour (DIN en 4892), it changes little with the passing of time.
